The Tomah VA Medical Center is holding a Memorial Day ceremony and outreach event on Thursday, May 25 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon. All Veterans and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony and event, which will take place on the steps of the medical center’s building 400.
During the ceremony, the Tomah VA will honor and remember the women and men who have died while in military service. The ceremony will include a keynote speech, a poetry recitation by local students, and a Tomah High School band performance. Military honors will be rendered by Tomah VFW Post 1382 and Taps will be sounded by a Mauston American Legion Post 81 member.
“The sacrifice of America’s men and women in uniform is the reason we have the freedoms we enjoy today,” said Karen Long, Tomah VA Medical Center Director. “Memorial Day is profoundly important to all of us at Tomah VA because it is a day set aside to honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free. We look forward to welcoming Veterans and all community members to the 2023 ceremony.”
An ice cream social will follow the ceremony, featuring custard donated by Culvers of Tomah. Those that attend can also honor and remember deceased loved ones by placing their loved one’s name on a leaf to hang on the Memorial Day Tree. Informational tables will also be available, at which attendees can learn about resources, potential new benefits under the historic PACT Act, and VA care.
