The day kicks off with a bird outing & presentation at Leola Marsh from Ashly Steinke, a member of Audubon. If you are interested in joining the outing, plan on meeting at Visit Rome’s Visitor Center (1146 County Road D Nekoosa, WI 54457) around 9:45 AM. The group will then leave our Visitor Center at 10:00 AM to head to Leola Marsh for an hour guided walk and presentation about prairie chickens and grassland bird habitat! Bring your binoculars, some water, dress for the weather, and wear shoes for some light walking. Coffee & donuts available for free before the outing!
Then at 12:30 PM (back at Visit Rome), we'll have members of Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI) give a fun 45-minute educational prestation along with 4-5 live Avian Ambassadors. Get up close and meet some raptors! This event is great for ALL ages. It is to be determined what raptors will be visiting but it could be anything from an owl, to a hawk, to an eagle, and so on.
Following the REGI presentation from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM we will be hosting a Kid’s “Wild Bee Hotel” building activity at Visit Rome’s Visitors Center. Any age is welcome to join! We will encourage kids to make a colorful shelter for the bees they can hang in their trees at home! Snacks and drinks will be available for free during the REGI presentation and the “Wild Bee Hotel” activity. We will be releasing more information on this year’s World Migratory Bird Day message and how you can help the birds! Stay tuned!
